Academic Research for Business Solutions: The Connection Between Academia and Business

Good morning colleagues

Our topic for discussion focuses on the idea of the purpose of academia and business as a more symbiotic relationship.  Ideally, the goal is to connect academic research to achieve measurable results in business.  Think of creating this relationship handshake between academic scholars and business owners—a practical application of academic purpose to serve the tenets of business.

My goal is to prepare my students with experience in solving business problems while they are still within the safety net of the academic environment.  Instead of theoretical problems to solve, my goal is to use ‘real’ business problems to solve, for students to gain practical experience of application they can apply to their future work place goals.

Why is this important? Business owners want to see demonstrations of critical thinking and problem solving during the academic journey to show a higher probability of success upon graduation and entrance into the business world.

Let’s focus our discussion this week regarding how you connect academia learning to business application.  I look forward to learning about your best practices.

My best,

Dr. Cheryl Lentz
