Dissertation Writing and Publishing Tips: Follow Posted Directions

Good morning colleagues

This week’s topic is really one that crosses into student as well as faculty writing and publishing success: following directions.  As both faculty and a professional editor, I often see a challenge with reading too quickly, often skimming over important details, particularly regarding directions for the assignment or perhaps direction for submission to any publication.

Remember, often to go faster, we must slow down.  Take the time to thoroughly read (several times) the assignment or publication directions for submission.  If there is an example, review it; if there is a rubric, review and follow it.  Often times failure to earn full credit in an assignment or failure to be accepted for submission is simple; one didn’t take the time to review the posted directions.  Don’t let this happen to you!

I would welcome your teaching strategies on how to help students earn full credit by taking the time to review the syllabus, the grading rubric, past assignments, as well as any other posted tips for the assignment.  Do be sure yourself as faculty in your class or when submitting to a scholarly publication to follow these tips as well.  *Smiles*

My best to your success!
