New Year’s Resolution: Be sure to plan!

Happy New Year! Are you ready? As we begin a new year, time to review communication fundamentals. Do you have these thinking skills? Critical thinking? Refractive Thinking?

“If thinking is inside the box, and critical thinking is outside the box, what lies beyond the box? Refractive thinking.”

Often success is in the details. Think about the art of customer service. Just the other day a doctor’s office tried to call me about my test results—except they had the wrong name. Little things right? The solution? Slow down. Sometimes you need to slow down to go faster. Take the time to verify the information BEFORE you call. Do you have the right name? The right file? Do you know what you’re going to say before you pick up the phone?

People don’t plan to fail. They fail to plan.

Take the few minutes (seconds?) to have all your ducks in a row before you take the leap.

Do you have a plan? Do you have all the facts? Do you have a smile in your voice? Is your intention to be of service?

Remember the sender-receiver model to ensure that YOU stay in control of the conversation to guide the exchange to the conclusion YOU intend.

Remember, we have to lead ourselves first and foremost. Slow down. Smile. Take the time to plan. Take the time to be of service to others. Start the New Year’s off on the right foot.

First we plan our work; then we work our plan. Simple isn’t often easy, but success is in the details.

Good luck! Cheers to the adventures of what lies ahead in 2019!!
